Carrie Elizabeth Shockley, 93, of Leola, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at her home. Born in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Hamilton and Susan Brown and the wife of the late John H. Shockley who died in 1980.
She was a Teacher's Assistant for 34 years at Community Action Program, retiring in 1999.
She was a member of Queen of Sheba Temple #137 since 1969, and a former member of Concerned Parents of Lancaster. In the 1970's Carrie was awarded the "Parent of the Year" from the Concerned Parents of Lancaster. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's COGIC under the leadership of pastor Odessa Coder, during her time at St. Paul's she was on the Mother board of the church. Carrie was an honorary mother of Justice at the former "Just As I Am Restoration Ministries Inc." She raised $3000 in the Lancaster Community for parents of missing children in Atlanta, GA to establish a safe haven for runaway and missing children, The Emanus House.
She is survived by her children: Saheeb Sabur (Shirlynn), Sandra LaRue (Robert), Ricardo Brown, Randy Brown, Abdul Rahman/Danetta, Atlanta, GA, Georgine Brown (John), Victoria Shockley (Daryl), her sister-in-law Adele Chambers-Brown 57 grandchildren, 150 great-grandchildren, over 100 great-great-grandchildren, one Godson Kyle Brown, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Brown, and siblings: Charles Onley, Mary Frances Brown, Joseph Brown, and Brenda Betts.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Carrie's Funeral Service at One City Church, 935 E. Walnut Street, Lancaster on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. with Bishop Milton Jones officiating. There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
