For the second time, Matt Zamperini has stepped down as Garden Spot’s football coach.
Multiple team social media sites confirmed that Zamperini tendered his resignation in late February, and that the team was informed that he resigned his post.
In his two stints as the Spartans’ coach, Zamperini guided Garden Spot to a 79-77 record in 14 total seasons.
Zamperini’s first stint as the Spartans’ skipper was from 2006 through 2015, when he led Garden Spot to a 56-52 record with a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 title in 2012, and a trip to the District 3 semifinals in 2008.
After his first tour as Garden Spot’s coach, Zamperini served as a defensive line coach for Albright College. He then returned as Garden Spot’s skipper prior to the 2019 season.
Zamperini took the Spartans to the District 3 playoffs the last two years, including this past fall, when Garden Spot shared the Section 3 title with Ephrata and Twin Valley, before falling to Ephrata in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs for a 9-2 season.
