The Broadway version of a hit Disney film, the rock version of the last days of Jesus Christ, some dancing cats, tributes to early rock and country legends and a grown-up take on a Dr. Seuss holiday tale are among the offerings of what the Fulton Theatre is calling its upcoming “blockbuster” season.
The shows for the 2024-25 season were announced Monday night, May 6.
Main-stage shows
The main-stage shows for next season are:
— “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,” Sept. 20-Oct. 20. The musical traces King’s career and personal life from teenage songwriter to hit recording artist.
— Disney’s “Frozen,” the Broadway musical, Nov. 15-Dec. 19. The show is based on the hit animated film that produced the hit song “Let it Go.” (Ronks native Jonathan Groff was one of the stars of the “Frozen” film series).
— “Jesus Christ Superstar,” Feb. 14-March 9, 2025. This is the Fulton premiere of this early 1970s rock musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice that tells the story of the end of Jesus’ life.
— “Anastasia: The Musical,” April 11-May 11, 2025. A young woman with amnesia searches for her identity; could she be the surviving Russian Duchess thought to have been killed with her father, the czar?
— “Cats,” June 13-July 20, 2025. Which of several singing, dancing felines will get a new life in the Heavyside Layer?
Ellen Arnold Groff Studio Series
The shows in the Ellen Arnold Groff Studio Series include:
— “Deathtrap,” Oct. 4-Nov. 3. This comedy-thriller about murder-minded playwrights is a play within a play. (Groff, incidentally, starred in this play in London in 2010.)
— “Who’s Holiday!,” Dec. 4-22. This adults-only, Dr. Seuss-inspired comedy sees a grown-up Cindy Lou Who reflecting on the twists her life has taken since she met the Grinch.
— “The Irish and How They Got That Way,” Feb. 7-March 23, 2025. This Fulton favorite traces 150 years of Irish-American history with songs, stories and more.
— “Forever Plaid,” April 25-May 25, 2025. This funny, nostalgic revue of 1950s harmonizing “guy group” songs finds the deceased Plaids returning from the afterlife for one last gig.
Tribute Concert Series
The Fulton’s new Tribute Concert Series has three offerings for the season:
— “Great Balls of Fire,” starring Jason Cohen, Jan. 25-26, 2025, a tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis and the musical genres that influenced him.
— “This One’s for the Girls: Patsy Cline and the Women of Country,” starring Christine Mild, March 23-24.
— “King in Concert,” starring Victor Trevino Jr., May 17-18, 2025, an Elvis Presley tribute.
Fulton Family Series
Finally, the Fulton Family Series offers three hour-long, Saturday-morning adaptations of children’s classics:
— “A Christmas Carol,” Nov. 30-Dec. 21.
— “Alice in Wonderland,” April 19-May 3, 2025.
— “Aladdin,” Feb. 22-March 8, 2025.
