2024 L-L League Boys Singles Championships

Cooper Lehman of Hempfield backhands the shot of Ephrata's Zachary Keiper in the L-L League Class 3A boys singles tennis championship finals at Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster on Monday, April 29, 2024.

There will be a heavy dose of Lancaster-Lebanon League boys tennis teams in the District Three Team Tournament Class 3A semifinals after all three L-L teams won quarterfinal matches Wednesday.

The biggest matchup will be between L-L rivals Hempfield and Manheim Township. The top-seeded Black Knights (15-1) coasted by eighth-seeded Central York (11-4) 5-0 on Wednesday while the fourth-seeded Blue Streaks (11-2) were 3-2 winners over No. 5 Palmyra (13-3).

At Hempfield recCenter, the Knights won each match in straight sets, including No. 2 singles, where Andre Hurst won 6-0, 6-0.

At Neffsville, all matches were won in straight sets, but three went Township’s way. Canyon Curry lost just one game in winning at No. 3 singles while Jake Palandjian and Jack Reynolds won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles, and brothers Chris and Nate Hager lost just one game at No. 2.

The semifinal will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Hempfield recCenter. The Knights defeated the Streaks 4-3 in their Section One match April 10.

Hempfield was the L-L Section One winner, while Township was third. Cedar Crest was second and will join the other two in Monday’s semifinals after the second-seeded Falcons (13-3) got by seventh-seeded Cumberland Valley (12-4) 3-2 Wednesday. Three of the five matches went three sets, including both doubles, won by Cedar Crest.

At No. 1, Isaac Wolfe and Nathan Meng survived 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 while Keygan Paquette and Ethan Rader won 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 2.

Joe Shkreli got the other win for the Falcons at No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-4.

Ben Sheffield had the other three-setter, losing 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3.

Cedar Crest will host defending champion and third-seeded Dallastown (16-3) in the other semifinal Monday at 4 p.m. It’s a rematch of last year’s final, won 3-2 by the Wildcats. The two teams met in a regular-season match on March 13, with Dallastown winning 4-1.

One match Wednesday would assure both a winner and loser for the L-L as defending 2A champion Lancaster Country Day hosted Pequea Valley. The Cougars (15-1), who are the No. 2 seeds, defeated the seventh-seeded Braves (10-5) 5-0. LCD was a 7-0 winner in their L-L Section Three matchup in March.

Michael Georgelis, the No. 1 seed for the District Three Singles Tournament, which begins Friday, and brother Gavin Georgelis each won 6-0, 6-0, as did Andrew Yanero and Ivan Bene at No. 1 doubles.

LCD will host third-seeded Wyomissing (12-1), a 3-2 winner over Berks Catholic on Wednesday, in the semifinals Monday at 4 p.m.

The district finals will be Wednesday, May 8, at Hershey Racquet Club.

L-L League 3A doubles

In Tuesday’s championship match at Manheim Central, the top-seeded pair of Cooper Lehman and Andre Hurst of Hempfield outlasted second-seeded Viseth Meng and Joe Shkreli of Cedar Crest 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

The match was not played Monday after some of the matches Saturday were halted by rain, complicating Monday’s schedule. Lehman’s L-L 3A singles match didn’t end until late afternoon on a very hot Monday, prompting the postponement of the doubles match until Tuesday.
