Gladys A. Groff, 98 formerly of Conestoga passed away Monday evening, May 6, 2024 at Evergreen Estates Retirement Community, Lancaster. Born in Conestoga on June 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Barbara Trissler Herr. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Marion G. Warfel on June 24, 1977 and Chester E. Groff, Jr., on May 29, 2014.
Gladys was a lifelong member of Colemanville United Methodist Church, Conestoga. She loved her church and found much happiness there. She played piano, sang in the choir and directed the children's choir for many years at Colemanville. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and always helped with the church suppers.
Gladys was a delightful lady who never had anything bad to say about anyone. Gladys blessed many people around her by her kindness and her love of serving others. She enjoyed being with her church family and hosted family gatherings quite often.
Gladys retired after 32 years of working from RCA. She loved traveling, to such places as Alaska, Hawaii, Florida and enjoyed taking bus trips. She enjoyed being outside and gardening. As a breast cancer survivor, she supported the local Relay for Life Teams.
Gladys will be deeply missed by her son, Ronald H., husband of Arlene E. Warfel of Conestoga; her grandchildren, Howard B., husband of Carol Warfel of Willow Street and Heather W. Gomez of Lancaster; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her step daughters, Bonnie M., wife of Bob M. Eckenroth of Lakeland, FL and Lynn G., wife of Paul Hubbs, Jr., of Lancaster and 7 step grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Megan Shissler; brothers, Franklin, L. Kenneth, J. Abram, Glenn "Bud" and W. Ray Herr and her sisters, Edna Gainer, Alma Herr, Betty Niesen Zerby and Berniece Reitzel Dougherty.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gladys' funeral service on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11 AM from the Colemanville United Methodist Church, 210 Colemanville Church Road, Conestoga. Friends will be received at the church on Saturday from 10 AM to 11 AM. Interment will be held in the adjoining church cemetery.
