Lancaster boxer James “No Chill” Bernadin (11-2) broke his nearly yearlong losing streak last Friday, defeating Osvaldo Morales (5-4) via unanimous decision.
The win took place at The Wind Creek Events Center in Bethlehem, at a King’s Promotions event.
All three judges scored the battle 58-54. But, Bernadin said he’d only give himself a B- if he were grading the fight.
He wanted a knock out in the first round. Instead, the fight, a rematch, went six full rounds, with Morales hitting the mat twice. Bernadin credits Morales for having “a game plan to keep me off of him … it took a while to get to him.” Once he did, he went hard, going back to his “old way,” he said. “I’m really strong, especially for my size,” said Bernadin, who weighed in at 133.9 pounds. The last two fights he “got away from it (and was not) imposing my will, not coming as hard.”
With this fight, Bernadin is back on track. “It feels really good, finishing out the year on a strong note,” Bernadin said.
As for 2024, “I wanna keep winning, no more Ls,” Bernadin said.
Never one to slow down, he already has two goals for next year — welcoming his third child in February and getting a shot at a world championship.
