Areas winter student-athletes were among 15 at Lebanon Valley College named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators. Cristina Fernandez, of Oxford, a member of the women’s basketball team and a graduate of Oxford Area High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in early childhood education at LVC. The guard started in all 26 games for the Dutchmen and scored 223 points with 150 rebounds, 82 assists, 44 blocks, and 37 steals. Joshua Varner, of Lititz, a member of the men’s swimming team and a graduate of Manheim Central High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science at LVC. Varner swam in seven meets and finished 26th in the 100-yard breaststroke, 28th in the 100-yard butterfly, 30th in the 50-yard freestyle, and swam on four relays at the MAC Championships. Natalie Bourne, of Columbia, a member of the women’s swimming team and a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science at LVC. Bourne swam in all nine meets and swam on four relays at the MAC Championships. Abigail Nagle, of Willow Street, a member of the women’s swimming team and a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science at LVC. Nagle swam in six meets and was a member of two winning relay teams during the season. Celia Yost, of Mount Joy, a member of the women’s swimming team and a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School, is pursuing a doctor of physical therapy in physical therapy at LVC. Yost swam in all nine meets and swam on one relay at the MAC Championships.
Jonathan Walters, of Lancaster, recently earned the Global Seal of Biliteracy after successfully completing the AVANT 4S Assessment. Walter is majoring in humanities at Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina.
Eric Becker, of Denver, and an ROTC Army recruit, was recognized March 28, 2024, with the Military Order of the Purple Heart Award at The Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina. The award is presented to underclass ROTC cadets who have a positive attitude toward ROTC and country, hold a leadership position in the Corps of Cadets, are academically proficient and are active in the community and school affairs.
Area students recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Eric Becker, of Denver, was initiated at The Citadel. Evan Long, of Lancaster, was initiated at Pennsylvania State University. Christopher Weaver, of Lancaster, was initiated at Pennsylvania State University.
Area students were honored by the Department of Psychology at Kutztown University during its annual Psi Chi Induction Ceremony on April 10, 2024. Students being inducted into Psi Chi, the International Honor Society for Psychology majors, are Mandy Maiers, of Mohnton; and Areyana Montanez, of Lancaster.
Mandy Maiers, of Mohnton, received the Field Experience Award for excellence in field and internship experience at Kutztown University on April 10, 2024. Maiers’ interests are in working with children with disabilities. She is currently completing her field internships at NeurAbilities in Allentown, where she works with a diverse population of children.
Hannah Wenger, of Denver, a senior pursuing a bachelors degree in voice performance from Bob Jones University, was hired before graduation 2024 as a music education ministry team leader at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina.
