What happened: Superintendent Catherine VanVooren reported Tracey Parker, a high school family and consumer teacher, has won the Citadel Heart of Learning Award for 2024.
Background: The Citadel Heart of Learning Award is a partnership between the Citadel Credit Unit and the Chester County Intermediate Unit. According to the Citadel website, the annual awards were founded 23 years ago to recognize teachers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, who show dedication in and out of the classroom. This year the program will bestow a total of $60,000 to teachers. Teachers are nominated by students, parents or their peers.
Winnings: Parker will receive $1,000 and a heart-shaped glass award.
Quotable: “She (Parker) not only imparts her knowledge but also fosters a nurturing environment where students feel supported and inspired to reach their potential,” VanVooren said.
What’s next: Beginning May 14, the board will hold its meetings at the district administration building, 3030 C G Zinn Road, Thorndale.
