Elizabethtown College students, residents at Masonic Village and other community members gathered at Masonic Village Tuesday night for a model Seder.
A Seder is a ritual feast that marks the beginning of Passover. This year, Passover begins before sundown on April 22 and ends after nightfall on April 30.
The Tuesday night event at Masonic Village was organized by Elizabethtown College’s chapter of Hillel International, a Jewish campus organization. Miriam Baumgartner, president of the Jewish Community Alliance of Lancaster, helped guide participants through the dinner’s rituals, which are centered around a retelling of the story of the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt.
The model Seder is intended to educate interfaith community members about the ritual through experiencing it themselves. More than 70 people registered for the model Seder.
