Christian music artist Charles Billingsley, a 100-voice choir and worshipers from across the county celebrated National Day of Prayer on Thursday with an evening gathering at Calvary Church in Manheim Township.

WDAC, the Christian radio station with decades of history in Lancaster County, hosted the event.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance when people are encouraged to pray, created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. It is held annually on the first Thursday in May.

At Calvary Church, worshipers focused on the National Day of Prayer’s “Seven Pillars of Prayer,” with topics of families, education, schools, teachers, government, military, first responders, media, businesses, physicians, health care and church.

In addition to the Calvary Church event, community prayer gatherings were held across the county, from Reamstown to New Holland to Quarryville.
